Don’t miss the meaning of this quote! Tozer’s point is not that Christians never lie, nor that the lyrics of our songs are untrue, but rather that our hearts are not fully persuaded of the words we sing. Do we mean it when we sing songs like “I Surrender All” or “I’d Rather Have Jesus”? Or do our hearts and lives belie the words we sing? Father, help us to sing the truth and to truthfully sing! For every idle word, we shall have to give an account. As the old preachers say, “If you can’t say ‘Amen’, say ‘Ouch’.”
